A Mars particle scanned by an atomic force microscope on board
Phoenix
is nearly identical to an Earthly microbe species in size, shape and
color. The Earthly species is halomonas campisalis of the halophile
family of microbes.
A new photo shows the Earthly species measures 2 X 1.3 micron , while
the Mars "particle" is "about" 1.85 X 1 micron according to NASA.
They are all red and show the same morphology in the following
figures.
